Maharaja Restaurant | Chikmagalur

When asking locals where to eat in Chikmagalur, many would recommend the Maharaja Restaurant. This restaurant on the I.G. road is known for its excellent Arabian and Hyderabadi dishes. Surprisingly, everyone we spoke to in the area recommended Maharaja Restaurant, so we ate there to find out for ourselves why it’s so well-regarded. I visited Chikmagalur twice: first on a spontaneous vacation with several other bloggers, and again while on assignment. Review

The food of the Maharaja Restaurant is a fusion of Arabian and Hyderabadi styles, and it is delicious. The titles of certain dishes may be unremarkable, but their tastes will blow you away. The traditional Mutton Biryani is my favourite dish here. This biryani is remarkable due to its enticing scent, well-balanced spice mixture, and delicate meat. The meat in this biryani is cooked to perfection.

The Chicken Biryani is also exceptional and stands out from the standard. The Maharaja Chef cooks chicken and mutton in diverse ways, resulting in an entirely different flavour profile than at many other restaurants that just throw meat on top of rice. Although I’m not usually a fan of chicken biryani, the delicious chicken leg and flavorful biryani really won me over.

It’s worth mentioning that the Mutton Biryani, with its heightened spice levels and creamy masala, is superior to the Chicken Biryani. I had the Chicken Chinese Chikmagalur Fry, a unique Indo-Chinese invention that the restaurant’s proprietor graciously presented to us, and loved it both times I had it.

The sweets were the icing on the cake for an already excellent meal. So, if you find yourself in Chikmagalur, don’t forget to stop by Maharaja Restaurant and try one of their delicious biryanis or other dishes.
